Lancaster Cohousing Company

Lancaster Cohousing is a group of people committed to building a cohousing development of private homes, community facilities, workshops/offices and shared outdoor space on the banks of the River Lune at Halton, just outside Lancaster. The homes are being built to Passiv Haus standards and will meet Level 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

 

Main roles in PROFICIENT

Lancaster Cohousing will contribute to business models for new development; end-user’s demand; financial, design, and assessment instruments.

 

Key persons involved

Ms. Jan Maskell is the Director of Lancaster Cohousing with responsibility for processes, including the consensus decision making process within the community and management of the meetings to achieve this. Jan has experience in building design and is currently an Occupational Psychologist. She works with individuals and organisations to help them to improve their performance and has a special interest in models and methods for improving project work, project managers and project partners. She has worked with private sector companies in diverse sectors including construction, telecommunications and finance as well as with public sector organisations such as the NHS and the Fire Service. She has helped organisations to develop Project Management frameworks based on PRINCE 2 methodology and coached managers in its implementation. Jan has a Diploma in Architecture, an MA in Training and Development, an MSc in Occupational Psychology and has completed a PhD in Educational Research. She is a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and an Associate of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.


Mr. Jon Sear is the Project Manager for the construction of the Cohousing project. Jon was a founding Director of Lancaster Cohousing and works as a consultant on environment and transport policy, as well as project management. During the key phases of project development he has spent most of his time working for Lancaster Cohousing as the key contact point for the rest of the Professional Team. Jon is a former Green County Councillor and an accredited Domestic Energy Assessor. Jon acted as the client project manager for a newly built Community Centre. Previously he worked for the Campaign to Protect Rural England within land-use planning and housing issues. Jon has an ecology degree and takes a practical interest in sustainable construction. He is a member of Friends of the Earth's Regional Advisory Group.
