Lancaster Cohousing, Eco Arc Architects & Alan Clarke Take Home Passivhaus Award Top Prize

The UK Passivhaus Awards was launched by the Passivhaus Trust to celebrate the achievements of Passivhaus pioneers in the UK. The awards highlighted the versatility of the Passivhaus Standard that can be applied to any building type or size and that Passivhaus design can demonstrably create beautiful, energy efficient, comfortable and cost-effective buildings. The awards ceremony took place on 4th July 2013 at the Residence of the Austrian Ambassador, London and was well attended by the who’s who of the UK Passivhaus community.

Lancaster Cohousing is currently the largest completed Passivhaus housing development in the UK and meets the Code for Sustainable Homes level 6 and Lifetime Homes, with site-wide renewable energy systems, all at affordable costs. The award they won recognises the importance of the Lancaster Cohousing project as a catalyst for future sustainable neighbourhood developments across the UK as as a stepping stone to deliver higher volume Passivhaus housing projects to communities throughout the UK.

All nine of the shortlisted projects were presented at the Awards. The presentations were accompanied by 2 minute videos prepared for the Trust by PHT member Ben Adam Smith and provided a great soft touch to the presentations which focused on hard facts and figures from the measured performance data. The winners were decided by a joint vote from the audience and PHT members who had voted online earlier in the week.
